Be safe out there, bro.
June 21st - Traversing Canada's BC Province on an R1250GS Adventure + Bear Spray is expensive! @7:01 LOL Yeah, that was me. But, we sorted out that email issue only LONG after you passed within 4km (2.5 freedom units) of my home in the previous episode (June 20th - 600-mile day from Olympic NP to Cache Creek BC @7:00). Sorry, we couldn't connect then, but I am happy that you made it North as far as you did (NO SPOILERS from me). Riding 1000km/day, day after day, wouldn't have been a lot of fun but, if I read your emails correctly you also realized that that pace was ambitious, after the fact, given the stress on your body. Having made the trip twice now - Vancouver to Tuk - saving something in the personal tank for the final push up the Dempster Highway is highly advisable. It's a tricky road that requires your full attention - especially when physically and mentally tired. Although the speed limit on all sections of the Dempster is 80 km/hr (50mph), I caution that travelling at that speed leaves you little time to adjust to the variable road conditions you'll find as you ride along. Slow down, enjoy the breathtaking scenery, and stay upright. This riding season (June 2024) there has already been one motorcycle fatality, a 50-something gentleman from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Early reports indicated that he might have been riding too close to the middle of the road or suffered a 'target fixation' situation and rode into an oncoming transport truck. The reason he was too far over in the center (lane 3?)? Most likely the deep loose gravel at the side of the road and in between the two heavy truck tire paths - the gravel is deep, like a race track gravel trap, in spots. Thus, you're restricted to riding two single parallel paths on the right side of the road. It's also common to find sections of the Dalton where there are 1-2m (3-6 ft.) deep ditches at the side of the road. So, combine deep gravel patches, and slimy snot mud when it rains, while avoiding riding into 'bottomless' ditches, combined with fast-changing weather - you'll be crossing Arctic mountain passes, and on-coming heavy double trailer fuel trucks, you need to be fully rested, hydrated, and alert at all times. Ride safe everyone.
Awesome video beautiful up there very cool
Im dreaming of riding across america. Im envious!
Questing is to recommend or not to
I'm nervous for you. Ride safe and thanks for sharing.
I like how you created the Adam Bobblehead affect! 😅
😂welcome to the north in “Pacific North West”!! Only when there is snow on the ground can you leave a door open!! 😂 I hate bugs way more than bears!!
Hello, it looks that there is lots of action in White Horse. Great video. Cheers
I am new to the BMW GS1250/1300/1200 World. I own a 22 Royal Enfield Himalayan I bought new last year. Fun bike to ride and i can ride all day and its really comfortable. Only drawback is 60-65mph is about the top speed for long runs. I went to my Local BMW Dealership in Wilmington North Carolina. I live in the Myrtle Beach area and Cape Fear BMW are awesome. I'm 5'9" and they showed me the 24 1250GS with low suspension option. I can easily flat foot it and love the 8 gallon tank. Its so well balanced, it feels as light as my Himalayan and the tank was full. As a just retired Ford dealership mechanic, I am with you in buying the last, best made model. Give the 1300GS a few years if them fixing the engineered gremlins. Great video. Ive been watching a bunch of these to decide. I'm going to Maine, then Austin Texas to visit family and maybe out towards Arkansas. The BMW looks to be the right tool to get me there.
Debating on using the 3m back.. or not to allow easy of removing if necessary. Suggestions??
good job, let us know if you see any animals!
“I highly doubt this will have any problems” Im currently sitting in a gas station parking lot with oil all over 😂
I put adventure in front and the GPS rear. Great combo
Hi Adam. Beautiful road and what gorgeous weather! Alaska and BC have been on my list for a few years now. Hopefully next year! Safe travels.
It's great to hear from you, sir! I hope life is treating you well. Yeah, bucket list trip and I'm trying to see as much as possible in just 5 weeks. Really the northwest and Alaska needs all summer. great roads, hiking, sights, camping.
Adam, ever thought of submitting your mileage to the local “Iron Butt” orgs!!😂 BTW, I graduated from 100 Mile House High School! Enjoy riding through the Gold Rush mile marked towns! Unfortunately those glaciers are not permanent.
Oh nice! That's awesome. These are long riding days. I've done a couple of 1200 mile days 2 years ago but it's been a while. 650 while also stopping to see things, get food and take photos is about all I can take for this trip. I thought about doing a 1500 mile in 24 hour when I go through Kansas.
50 miles range what a joke
Thanks for sharing. You’re right photos and video are not the same as being there, but still fabulous and gives that opportunity to share your joy and awe of all that’s beautiful!
I also did zero research so this is all so awesome to see. It's not like I watched videos or looked at photos before so I'm just blown away by the majesty of it all.
Adam - which Garmin are you running? Be Safe brother!
The GPS is a Zumo XT2. I have an XT as well but this is faster, larger screen and works natively with my InReach. it's not perfect but it is an upgrade.
Hi Adam - those communities were stopping houses along the Cariboo Road which was constructed in the early 1860’s. They are named for their distance on the road north of Yale.
Thanks for the education. I have a running list of things to look up on Wikipedia when I'm home but I've seen that mile marker system used on a few of these northern roads. It's pretty sweet.
Nice ride dude. I'm jealous of your tech skills. Rode to Port Renfrew on Van Island two years ago, I couldn't get over how clean the air is! Does you bike have km on the tft, or you rely on the gps? Five weeks is incredible! Have fun and be safe
BMW, if you buy a bike anywhere in the world that defaults to kilometers and liters will let you change the TFT to Miles / Gallons. BUT if you buy a BMW in USA, you cannot change it to KM/Liter. I don't know why. It presents all of the road speeds in miles, gives you gallons remaining and etc etc. All of my BMWs have been like that (even pre-TFT) and it's so annoying when my friends from Quebec on the same bikes can just change there bike to miles when they go to USA.
Welcome to BC. We have a great province to explore. Try your best to do the Cassiar Hwy, with a side trip via Stewart BC to Salmon Glaciar. Safe travels 👍
I did Route 37 north but didn't head to Stewart. I had to get up to Whitehorse in one day so just didn't make time but 37 was totally empty and had some awesome scenery.
My favorite stretches of highway are from Cache Creek to Vancouver. No matter how many times I ride it, I’m still speechless at the beauty.
Overwhelmingly beautiful. There are parts of this world that make me feel so small. Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, the Swiss Alps. This was one of those places.
Looks absolutely breathtaking! Following your trip. Good luck and stay safe!
The scenery continues to get better. I'm now on day 14 and about to head south to Banff / Jasper / Glacier NP. Going to be a gorgeous week of riding.
4:57 Ah, yes. The good ol' post drop blue smoke signal - know it well! 😄
It's honestly the sign of a great ride. Happened to me a few days ago on a BDR. New off road riders freak out but that's just GS things.
@@AdamChandler86 Oh, absolutely. It's actually a feature. It's to let our fellow GS riders nearby know that we took a tumble but all is well and we're and up and running again. 😄
Thanks Adam!! Beautiful trip, living it through you. Since you are from NH, when you saw the “Jack in the Box” it madmen remember when there was one in Salem NH on Broadway St. Enjoy your trip, I look forward to the rest of your video. 😊
I didn't Know there was a Jacks in NH. I honestly thought it was just a west coast thing.
Worth the trip there just for the corn dog ride! Yeeha! 🤟
Kid literally was waiting while I was still sitting on it and said "mom, why is a man riding the kid's ride?" LOL
@@AdamChandler86 That’s hilarious!
Great video glad you are seeing the coast. I also get nervous going over the Astoria bridge, the camera does not do justice to just how high and how banked the first corner is!
YEP! Super wide angle and it's really hard to get that sensory experience of the wind, traffic, noise and bridge size. Astoria was beautiful.
I just picked up a brand new 2023 100-year anniversary for $14,995 after the $1,000 rebate. 48-month zero financing with zero down.
Congrats. Great deal on an awesome bike. They're timeless and are going to be classics in a couple of decades. I can see these being the last of a kind of bike that can't be built in 20 years when emissions and electrification ruin this.
Hahahah very cool. The Blockbuster!!
It wasn't open but they sell you Membership card for $5. Really wanted one.
Detroit isn't a bunch of millionaires, a wildfire went through there in 2020 and their rebuilding the town. It went from a run down town to a cute destination but it's sad it took a fire.
Good to know. Fires are horrible but we just have to acknowledge they happen whether we're here or not and with population growth, these fires are having a bigger impact.
Team effort, your wife is awesome! For those of us that are firefighters, do 56 hrs work-week and can’t get that much time off, we can’t ride. We are away from our families a lot, if you have the time to ride, do it. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Well, you're doing the more important job, that's for sure and sadly the critical jobs we rely on to keep us safe are often the least rewarded. I'm sitting in a suit in an office building getting all of this time off and there are medical and EMS folks working 80 hour weeks and completely understaffed. Thanks for keeping us all safe and serving your community.
@@AdamChandler86 our pleasure, thank you for sharing your videos this is how we debrief, if we can’t ride, at least we get to watch your vids and see places that we would like to ride… awesome footage!
Agree on VT Cheese and Ice cream. It’s better!
Shots fired for sure but a good cabot clothbound and a maple creamee can't be beat.
Glad you stopped at Pelican Brewing, it's a must do when passing by!
It's been on my bucket list for years. My side-hobby is beer-rating (over 6,000) and I have had a few of their beers shipped to me from Oregon but never fresh at the source. It's a shame DeGarde was closed this day.
I feel your pain. I rode from fields to Three forks and ate shit doing 45 in that moon dust.
Oh man, that was super dicey!!!! I feel really proud to have kept the bike upright as long as I did. I was doing like 50 MPH for a while and finally thought "I'm going to break my leg if I keep doing this" then I dropped it then walked it a mile but in retrospect, I'm glad I did. Glad you're okay!
Now I can hear you. For a few minutes I thought that the audio problem was on my end! Nice scenery. Enjoy
I need a full time tech engineer I think. Just filled up my 3rd, 512GB SD Card and may need to buy an SSD for my laptop since I want to keep all original files in case I want to edit a compilation.
Great video Adam, be safe out there🙏
Thanks Kyle! It's a long ride, gotta keep healthy and not push myself. Every day is a new chance for something to go right or wrong. I've been lucky so far and it's been a fantastic trip overall.
I remember Spymac was hyping the crap out this before they released the video. I was so pumped, I actually was able to access the index of the website (was super easy) and got access to some of the videos before they had officially been posted. Then, I uploaded them and posted the video myself on a forum I frequented at the time. Ah...memories. 22 year old memories. lol
I actually found the link to the forum post I was talking about, but whenever I try to include it in youtube comment, the comment disapears. I'm going to post it in a reply to this comment and see if it sticks. Wish me luck!
Yeah. Keeps vanishing.
I tried splitting up a bitly shortened link, but nothing works. So, I'm going to describe how to type in this URL. I know...this is crazy. I am crazy. Here we go: 1. Type "bit" 2. Add a period 3. Type "ly" 4. Add a forward slash 5. Type 4eRTVAu (case sensitive) 6. Hit Enter/Return And, I swear this isn't spam. Just a link to the forum post I mentioned.
hah, thanks. that worked for me!
macosx.com/threads/spymac-com.11423/#post-57446 Let's see if this works if I do it.
It is all adventure remember . I just had lunch with a friend and we decided we were lucky to have cancelled a trip to the Rally from Mich . Just too cold . So enjoy your trip .
Literally freezing. I wanted so hard to do the BDRs up to the border but so many roads are closed, snow, ice, sigh.
I’m enjoying your trip… sorry about our weather.. I’m riding to Touratech from western Washington tomorrow on my new GSA and I’m thinking I need my thermal layers. My 54 year old joints need some heat!!
Safe travels to the rally. It seems like Spring doesn't want to end then up here in Alaska, it's a heat wave of 80 degrees.
ouch
Yeah, no bueno. Took about a week to really heal.
Missed you by a few days on the playa
So close! It was a perfect camping spot though and honestly on a Saturday night, not that busy.
I realize you are probably several days ahead of this video, but if you get the chance take the 101 all the way up through Oregon, stop at Pacific City and have lunch/dinner at Pelican Bay Brewing Company (it's outstanding). You can even venture further up the Washington coastline and go the most Northwest Point at Neah Bay, its pretty spectacular!
I think you'll be happy with the next couple of videos :)
@@AdamChandler86 Foreshadowing has me excited!
@@AdamChandler86 I would second the suggestion for riding all the way up US-101. You should put it on your bucket list. It's too bad you didn't ride over to Florence and then up the Coast. Because you missed the best part of the Oregon Coast. Also I wouldn't pay $50 for camping on the Coast. Just ride up one of the forest roads, and look for a clearing big enough for your bike and tent to stealth camp camp on.
Thanks Max, there's always next time. I could obviously spend weeks in Oregon and not see many of the Best places. But I do keep a spreadsheet of rides people suggest for future trips.
Those grapefruit size chonies it takes to ride that alone on a fully loaded 700+ lb GSA must get uncomfortable too after a long day like that. Just sayin
It's slow as hell and you really have no margin for error on any of the terrain. It'd be nice to just float over the rocks but then if you get off your line and into a rut, you could go down really fast.
@@AdamChandler86 Exactly!
Hope the ankle's feeling better... I'm enjoying watching your adventures and want to get out on my 23 GSA 1250A for something like this very soon! Are you able to get out like this every summer?
I did get some recovery. The boots are great and well supportive but I've been playing it a bit safer since then. I do one big trip every summer but nothing this big. I skipped last year since my wife was pregnant and I had just started a new job. 2023's was Michigan's UP and in the past, NEBDR / Newfoundland / Labrador. Next year will probably be the Trans-Taiga highway.
Cinnamon toothpaste..yuk!!..I rather wrestle the Bear!!😮😅
After 2 weeks now on it, I'm pretty over it. It's so not satisfying compared to mint.
Wow, just a little bit of stress during the day!
Day one of the trip, off with a bang!
those part numbers are for what website?
I source most of them from MaxBMW's Classic Parts Fiche. You can order there as well. ASCycles would be my rec if you're on the west coast.
Great video Hope u shake the cold Be Safe!
I got to the hotel freezing cold. Shame I couldnt' camp out there but it was literally freezing out overnight.
Thanks!
Rock on, Todd! Thank you for this. I'm glad you appreciated the video.
